Sprucing Up Norman (T25)

Updated: May 23, 2021

Introducing Norman the T25.

Norman is a 1988 VW Transporter T25 (T3) owned by Eugene and Tracy from Shrewsbury. He has been part of their family now for over 9 years and has been on many adventures. At 33 years old, Norman had been loved to bits and needed some well deserved TLC so he was popped over to VW Worx for a well deserved spruce up!

Norman had been converted originally by Leisuredrive Ltd in Manchester and had lasted really well with the odd patch up every now and then throughout the years.

With his high top, Norman provided his occupants with plenty of internal space and even a luggage rack on the roof.

The years of adventures had taken their toll on poor Norman, and his bodywork was starting to let him down with several patches of rust, some of which had gone right through. The seals around the windows had also perished and there were signs of damp in places too.

Although Eugene and Tracy loved the original layout inside, it was starting to look a bit tired so they asked for the inside to be updated to the same layout to keep his original feel. The upholstery had recently been retrimmed so could be salvaged along with the Electrolux gas fridge for authenticity.

Norman was stripped out ready for his new insulation and replacement panelling. The bodywork was sandblasted and welded up with some bits being completely replaced.

With a new two tone paint job in original VW colours, Norman was ready to be put back together. Underneath, Norman was also treated for rust and painted for protection.

All of Normans bumpers and trims were treated to a new coat of shiny black paint and all of the window seals were replaced with new ones.

When finished, Norman was upgraded with a set of smoked front indicators and a brand new set of alloy wheels.

Inside, Norman's cabinets had been replaced with new lightweight ply ones, finished in driftwood and topped with White Sparkle counter tops. The cabinets were similar in design to the original ones so as not to take away any of his character.

This layout has plenty of storage and there is a wardrobe with side and rear access at the back end.

A new table hangs beneath the rear top cabinet and slots comfortably into position in the cabin with a post and floor mounting.

Norman has new electrics throughout connected to a Sargent power system and leisure battery charger. With new 240v mains sockets and 12v outlets, Norman also has the upgrade of USB charging points. There are two new LED reading lights over the bed area too.

A shiny new sink and hob with glass splashbacks has been fitted. The cupboard below includes the new water pump and fresh and waste water tanks.

The original tube lighting have been adapted to run LED strips, keeping the original character.

Norman now sports his own name badge underneath his iconic VW logo in the radiator grille.

Eugene and Tracy were delighted that they will be able to enjoy more adventures in Norman over the years to come saying "...A massive thumbs up from everyone, friends and neighbours alike. We are both absolutely chuffed to bits."

A big thanks to Eugene and Tracy for bringing their beloved Norman to us for his treatment and we are looking forward to seeing where they all go on their new adventures. We will share any updates and pictures of Norman's travels as they come in.
